Profile

Fuli Li, head of the Molecular Microbiology Engineering Group, has undertaken more than 10 scientific research projects, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation and Provincial level, with more than 30 million funding. He has published more than 100 research papers in famous journals such as Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Biotechnology for Biofuels, Journal of Bacteriology, including more than 70 SCI papers, cited 1633 times (Web of science), and H-index is 21. He has won excellent doctoral dissertation prize of Shandong University and Shandong Province. In addition, he won the 10th Qingdao Youth Science and Technology Award in 2015 and won the price of the first “Entrepreneur Qilu·Win-Win Future” Entrepreneurship Competition in 2018, and he was selected as the talent leader of Taishan Industry. The flavin-based electron bifurcation was first found by him, which solved the problem about energy metabolism in anaerobic Clostridium that lasted for 50 years. Subsequent studies shows that FBEB widely exists in anaerobic microorganisms and archaea, which is a novel mode of energy metabolism except for substrate-level phosphorylation, electron transport and photophosphorylation. It has laid a foundation for the metabolism and regulation of anaerobic fermentation, which has become one of the research hotspots in microbial field. Based on this, the group develops the syngas fermentation to produce alcohol. At present, the alcohol production exceeds 50 g/L under the laboratory conditions, reaching the international advanced level and having industrialization potential. He has also found the microalgae with high yield of nervonic acid, and obtained the yeast with high yield of nervonic acid through synthetic biotechnology, which was transferred to Zhejiang Zhenyuan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, providing strong technical support for bioenergy related industries.
