The Yeast Biotechnology Research Group is a part of the One-Carbon Biotechnology Research Center at the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences.The research group focuses on yeast biotechnology and has established yeast synthetic platforms for the production of lipids using various yeast species including Lipomyces, Rhodotorula, Saccharomyces, and Yarrowia. The group investigates the genetic and metabolic regulation mechanisms of these strains, develops genetic editing, metabolic engineering, directed evolution, and high-throughput screening techniques, and aims to enhance yield and optimize fermentation processes. Currently, the group is primarily engaged in research on the synthesis of oils and proteins in yeast in response to significant demand. They lead various projects funded by the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. With more than 30 publications, the group has obtained over 10 international PCT and granted invention patents and has transferred strains and technologies to multiple companies.
Job Requirements: Several positions available including Associate Researcher, Assistant Researcher, Postdoctoral Fellow, Project Assistant.
Microbial protein synthesis: As a team leader or core member, the candidate will be responsible for yeast protein expression, genetic regulation of host metabolism, and the conversion of renewable raw materials into single-cell protein. Background in microbiology, bioengineering, biochemistry and molecular biology, or bioinformatics is required.
Yeast lipid synthesis: As a team leader or core member, the candidate will conduct basic research on oil-producing yeast, including development of fine subcellular technologies, customization of fatty acid and derivative synthesis mechanisms, and construction of high-yield strains. Background in microbiology, bioengineering, biochemistry and molecular biology, or bioinformatics is required.
Enzyme design and modification: The candidate will use AI techniques to design enzymes and conduct experimental validation to support efficient synthesis of lipids and proteins. Background in bioinformatics, computational biology, or relevant work experience is required.
Fermentation: As a team leader or core member, the candidate will be responsible for microbial fermentation for the production of lipids, proteins, etc. Background in fermentation engineering, bioengineering, or relevant research experience is required.

Associate Researcher and Assistant Researcher positions: Competitive salary, negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

Project Assistant position: Monthly salary starting at 7,000 RMB, with an additional subsidy of 800 RMB per month for the first 3 years provided by Qingdao city.
