Profile
Professor Shi'an Wang is a doctoral supervisor. He obtained his doctoral degree from the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008 and joined the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same year, where he has been working since. During his time there, from 2013 to 2014, he conducted metabolic engineering research and studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States.
He focuses on the synthesis of lipids and proteins in yeast. He has established research platforms for Yarrowia lipolytica, Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Pichia pastoris, and has analyzed the genetic and metabolic regulatory mechanisms of these strains. He has developed technologies such as gene editing, subcellular synthesis, directed evolution, and high-throughput screening. He has also developed high-yield strains and fermentation processes, and achieved the industrial transformation and cooperation of multiple technologies. He has published more than thirty papers in professional journals such as Communications Biology, CRISPR Journal, Bioresource Technology, Biotechnology for Biofuels, Carbohydrate Polymers, and AEM. He has filed two PCT patents (one of which has been granted in the United States, Europe, and Japan) and twelve invention patents, of which eight have been granted. He has undertaken multiple national and provincial projects and serves as the chief scientist of the national key research and development program. He joined the Young Innovators Promotion Association, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013 and received support from Qingdao Hi-Tech Talents Program in 2020. He serves as a member of the Evaluation Committee of The Global Energy Association and a young editorial board member of Bioresources and Bioprocessing.
